Why is Leadership Important?
Leadership is important for many reasons; after all just imagine the chaos that would erupt in your business or job if there was no one in charge. It would be like walking into a bad dream every day. People would be arguing there would be horrible fights over who was in charge, disruptions over who was doing what jobs. Even fights over something as simple as who is going to answer the phone. Leadership is essential in every way to the core of a successful business or project. Regardless of how skilled people are, if someone is not in charge to help guide the project or business then it is doomed to failure. This is not something that people want to see. By nature, human beings are highly competitive, so failure is rarely an option for us. If there is no leadership in a business then it is doomed to failure, even with the greatest amount of teamwork someone must be in control who has the ability to guide projects and help everyone work together towards a common goal. While many companies are stressing high amounts of teamwork there still must be someone in charge of the teams to ensure that they are working together to give the best results possible. If there is no set leader in charge, then the people on the team will end up competing with each other to see who can take over successfully. Often the task of trying to take over becomes the main focus and the group can lose track of what they set out to do in the first place. Other times, it can cause a group to fight so much that while they still know what they are supposed to do, nothing has been accomplished towards that goal. Without a leader in place, there is no one to decide how to handle a problem, nor decide what aspects of a project are most important and need additional time. Leadership is important to ensure that a business runs successful as well as ensure that individual projects are successful. Without the proper leadership, you would never see anything positive coming from businesses. It is also important to ensure that the correct leadership style is chosen. Sometimes the style is less important for the type of project being worked on, rather than the people working on the project. Some people are able to work together very well with little supervision and intervention. For these people a free rein leadership style tends to work better. For those people who cannot stay on task and focus a directive leadership style is much better. Choosing the appropriate leadership style is the job of the leader. As you can see, businesses without leaders would actually be a rather frightening place with no stability and a lot of headaches and stress. Good effective leadership helps reduce stress, improve productivity, and encourage employees to perform their best. With these advantages, it is easy to see why leadership is so important towards success.
