Leadership Success Patterns
Can you comprehend how incredibly difficult it would be to compete in an Olympic swimming event if you hadn't ever set foot in a swimming pool before? I know this sounds ludicrous; but, how many times do we approach our lives this way? We have a tendency to follow the old proverb "Jump into the deep end and sink or swim". If everybody followed this, the whole world would drown! Each individual activity in life has a a pattern that, if followed properly, will cause us to be successful. The more energy we use in fighting against the proper pattern for succeeding, the longer it takes to actually achieve the goal we have set. Before you approach any company; any activity; any leadership position; any investment; or any job, memorize and use this process to increase your odds of succeeding: Research It- In a business context, this involves exploration and study. It also involves learning from experience and from experts. How long does it take you to figure out how to play a new board game verses actually reading the directions and watching a skilled player play? Abraham Lincoln once said "If I had six hours to cut down a tree, I'd spend the first four sharpening the axe." By doing thorough research and study you are symbolically "sharpening the axe." This will allow you to be many times more successful when it comes to actually doing the work. Do the Action- As soon as you have a background of understanding for your mind, then you can begin practicing the function or task. Know Your Resources- You have many resources that are available to you already. Start making a list of all the resources you know you have. If you think hard enough, and are imaginative in your thinking, you'll realize that you have within your realm of influence many of the components you need to succeed. This model for success is appropriate for every activity in life from being in a leadership position in your business to homemaking. So remember to learn, act, and use your resources!
